MW4 29 October update: Possession goes live, more XP and bigger DMZ cash rewards

Infinity Ward's 29 October update adds the Halloween Possession mode, raises XP in several modes, boosts DMZ cash payouts and closes more exploits on Mumbai and Hajin.

Infinity Ward pushed another update to Modern Warfare 4 on 29 October, the day after the first weapon tuning pass. There are no weapon changes this time: the focus is the Halloween Possession mode, faster progression and a long list of DMZ fixes.

Possession is live

The Halloween party mode is now in the playlist. Every kill teleports you to your victim’s position and swaps you onto their loadout, so picking who to kill matters as much as winning the gunfight. See our Possession and Infected explainer for how it plays.

Multiplayer

  • More XP: XP earn rates are up across several modes. Infinity Ward hasn’t said which modes or by how much.
  • Lithium: distracting overhead visual effects removed.
  • Shipment: redundant enemy location callouts removed.
  • Silkworm: the Recon Drone can no longer be deployed out of bounds.
  • Mumbai: out-of-bounds exploits fixed.
  • Concussion Grenades no longer flash a red damage indicator at the edge of the screen.
  • The Domination scoreboard loses its non-working Time Remaining indicator.

DMZ

  • Bigger payouts: cash rewards are up for Dynamic Ops, Side Ops and Story Mission replays.
  • Several exploits were closed (Infinity Ward hasn’t listed them).
  • Players can no longer extract with a disconnected teammate’s Dog Tag and keep it in their Dog Tag Case.
  • The Scavenger can no longer spot you the moment you deploy.
  • Squadmate actions now count towards the DMZ Mastery Camo challenge.
  • You can pick up a hostage after assimilating.
  • The interaction prompt at Lieutenant Towers no longer vanishes during Side Operations.
  • Encrypted Voice Logs now spawn reliably for the Ears Everywhere Order.
  • Enemy helicopters can no longer crash into the exfil chopper.
  • Spots on Hajin where players got stuck in the terrain are fixed, and vehicles no longer stack up at the map’s edge.
  • General crash and stability fixes across all modes.
  • Calling Card unlock requirements stay visible after you complete them.
  • The “Cash Gathered as HVT” stat in Inflation’s After Action Report is formatted correctly.
  • Opening or closing the DMZ FOB Quick Nav no longer scrolls the Progression Track.
  • With a full Stash you can now take a Free Loadout if your Active Duty Operator has no gear.
  • No more white flash when moving between Multiplayer menus.

Still being worked on: the Level 37 vest

Players who reached DMZ Level 37 before a recent fix never received the 3-Plate Armor Vest reward. The fix only helps players who hit Level 37 afterwards. Infinity Ward says it is working on delivering the vest to everyone who missed out.

Other open issues (loadouts not saving, missing stats, DMZ Operator Prestige) are still listed as under investigation on Activision’s known-issues page.
